The Teacher Creativity Center concludes training workshop in Nablus City
The city of Nablus embraced approximately 60 participants from 9 villages from the northern cities of the West Bank to meet and invest the energies of the community, seeking to participate in improving the educational environment for the children of Palestine.
Over the period of two consecutive days, the Teacher Creativity Center held a training workshop with the title “Development of Intervention Projects to Improve the Educational Environment” with social activists, educators, and members of parents’ councils as participants, from various social, academic, and age backgrounds; some were active youth thirsty for change, others had sufficient experience and background in the educational process and were still seeking to induce change. Regardless of their backgrounds and characteristics, all attendants participated in diagnosing the reality of their community focusing on the problems and challenges faced inside schools; under-achievement, communication between parents and the school, infrastructural problems were among the various problems diagnosed by the participants; thereafter, the participants discussed which were the most pressing problems and set them as their priorities, and developed a draft plan of action.
The “Development of Intervention Projects to Improve the Educational Environment” workshop, organized by the Teacher Creativity Center and held in Nablus was opened by the general director of the center, Mr. Refat Sabbah, who emphasized the importance of grouping the energies and efforts under the united slogan “Educational is the Collective Responsibility of All”; Sabbah confirmed that the Local Educational Councils Project is part of many projects to enhance social responsibility towards the educational sector, adding that there are still numerous challenges that need to be faced, and concluding that the purpose of this workshop is to empower the participants in a set of skills and knowledge that contribute to implementing intervention projects to improve the educational environment in their areas.
Mrs. Intesar Hamdan, director of the Social Responsibility Program at the Teacher Creativity Center, described the workshop as an educational demonstration in which the participants came from various backgrounds to form the base to establish local educational councils, such that 6 participants from every village attended with a sole interest of challenging the challenges the educational sector faces in their areas. At the end of the training, Hamdan added, the participants developed numerous intervention projects to improve the educational environment in cooperation with the local stakeholders.
It is worth noting that the two-day training workshop is part of the activities of the local educational councils project, aiming to contribute to developing a safe and democratic learning environment that safeguards children’s rights by establishing local educational councils in 9 villages in the northern West Bank. It is expected that the councils will take action in all necessary aspects, while focusing on the set priorities they adopted. The councils will incorporate memberships from all stakeholder organizations, political parties, centers and local clubs, in addition to parents and social and economical expertise in each area.
The training in the workshop, organized by the Teacher Creativity Center, in Nablus was by Mrs. Intesar Hamdan from the center and Mrs. Khalida Yasin, an educational supervisor in the Nablus educational directorate.
