Gaza Strip / Teacher Creativity Center (TCC) has concluded a specialized training program targeting 60 teachers and 30 school counselors, focusing on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and psychosocial support. The initiative is part of the Remedial Learning and Mental Health Project for Children, funded by Akelius Foundation in partnership with WeWorld, and aims to support children who have experienced learning losses due to the ongoing political situation.
The training, delivered by specialized experts, combined both theoretical and practical components, equipping participants with practical tools and skills to strengthen children’s capacities in temporary learning spaces that will soon be activated. The program seeks to address the significant learning loss caused by the ongoing war in Gaza, while also providing psychosocial support to help children cope with continuous trauma.
Dr. Mahmoud Al-Baraghiti, the project coordinator in Gaza, emphasized that the training relied on specialized SEL methodologies, enabling teachers to acquire educational and psychosocial skills that enhance children’s intellectual and academic capacities while alleviating psychological pressures. He added that the program includes a comprehensive educational and psychosocial plan extending over a full academic year, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, to help restore the education system and achieve a positive impact on children’s well-being and learning outcomes.
Al-Baraghiti further highlighted that TCC is among the pioneering institutions in implementing education-in-emergencies methodologies, integrating SEL and psychosocial support for children, including inclusive education for children with and without disabilities, in line with psychosocial safety and inclusive education standards.
As part of the program, TCC is preparing to launch 12 summer camps in August, offering a range of educational and psychosocial activities such as theater, music, and art. These camps aim to create a safe and supportive environment for children, helping them regain both their psychological and educational well-being.
